The short-tailed Ryukin is a species that has become popular in China in recent years. Characteristically, it has a shorter tail fin than the normal Ryukin. The short tail fins are not a feature that was targeted, but rather a natural feature of the species that emerged during the process of cumulative breeding.Body colors are diverse, ranging from individuals with normal scales, such as bare red and chintz, to individuals with transparent scales, such as calico and cherry red. The body shape is almost the same as that of the Ryukin. With its large, bulging belly and short tail fins, it has a body shape that is not suitable for swimming. However, they can swim very normally.
The short-tailed Ryukin was brought to Japan from China, where it was improved and refined into a type of goldfish called the Ryukin. The Ryukin variety emerged naturally during the stage of Chinese reimportation and progressive breeding of Ryukin. So, short-tailed Ryukin itself should have been available in Japan for a long time, but it has been eliminated in Japan and has not been generally known until recently. Conversely, in China, it is a very common type of Ryukin.
The way to enjoy short-tailed Ryukin is by the shortness of the tail fin, which is different from that of the normal Ryukin. The short tail makes it easier to recognize the shape of the body, and the overall form is rounded, making it a cute and enjoyable fish.To enjoy the short tail and body shape, we recommend viewing it from the side (side view) in an aquarium rather than from the top (top view) in a bowl. The side view shows how short the tail fins are and how much of the abdomen is protruding, which allows you to see the cuteness of the short-tailed Ryukin.
When mixing goldfish with other goldfish and other species, there is sometimes uncertainty as to what species is good and what species is not. First,There is no general prohibition against this or that when mixing goldfish with other species. Therefore, depending on the personality and environment of the goldfish you keep, even species that are said to be bad for each other may get along well with each other. However, there is also the matter of compatibility between goldfish. If you put incompatible goldfish together, there is a high possibility that they will fight or that only one of them will monopolize the food. Therefore, you should avoid putting incompatible goldfish together, but as I explained in the beginning, there is no prohibition for goldfish, so if you want to mix them, you may do so. Now, I will explain the goldfish that are compatible with the short-tailed Ryukin and those that are not.
The goldfish that are most compatible with the short-tailed Ryukin are Ryukin-type goldfish such as Ryukin and Demekin.Ryukin-type goldfish are characterized by their tail fins, so it is a pleasure to mix various species and compare their tail fins.
Goldfish that are incompatible with the short-tailed Ryukin are Japanese goldfish, such as Wakin (Japanese goldfish) and Comet (Japanese goldfish). Many types of Japanese goldfish are agile and grow large in a short period of time. If they are mixed with Wagane-type goldfish, be aware that the short-tailed Ryukin goldfish may be eaten by other Wagane-type goldfish, such as food, and the difference in body size may cause them to move away from each other.
Short-tailed Ryukin is,Since the tail fins are shorter than those of the normal Ryukin, the body's center of gravity is on the head side, which can cause the body to turn one way or the stomach to turn upward. As such, the short-tailed Ryukin is a goldfish that is very susceptible to capsize disease. Therefore, you should always be concerned about capsid disease when keeping short-tailed Ryukin. Short-tailed Ryukin is one of the more common species that you can find in specialty stores. However, they are often expensive, so if you can find inexpensive short-tailed Ryukins, you may want to try them out.
